Day 5: Afternoon Meeting with Local Entrepreneurs

Our afternoon meeting with local entrepreneurs was definitely a highlight of this trip. What a panel of incredible women. First we met 16 year-old Rabia Ghoor, who a little over a year ago founded Swiitch Beauty, a beauty brand that is quickly emerging as a new leader in the beauty product market in South Africa.

Then we met Mam Khanyi, a mother of five who started rescuing children in her neighborhood who were victims of trafficking. She decided to abandon her import/export business career to help these children. Eighteen years later she now takes care of over one  hundred children through an organization she founded.

Finally we heard from Deshun Deysel, the first black woman to climb Mount Everest. She told us not only about her 1996 climbing expedition but also about her business and her career as a motivational speaker and a leadership trainer.

Day 5: Morning classes

Sydni said it very well yesterday, we have only been here for a few days but it feels like we arrived to ALA a long time ago. We are now used to the schedule and the lifestyle here, we are finding our space in this community and feeling like we belong.

We spent the morning in Seminal Reading discussions. This afternoon we are having lunch and conversations with three young South African entrepreneurs. We are very much looking forward to it.

Here are some photos from the morning.
