There’s so much to learn about life in Tokyo and we are lucky enough to be able to learn it from families who live here all the time!
Instead of reading about life in a book or just observing from the outside in, we are able to spend time with families every day and learn more about life in the city.
For instance, the practice of wearing a face mask in public was not in much of our preparation, but it is a big part of life in Tokyo. Many people wear them to stay healthy, but others wear them to protect everyone else from any germs. They are worn on the trains and in school most often.
We have also been able to experience delicious homemade meals with our families. On our group chat, we have shared pictures of breakfasts and dinners, sharing all the new foods with each other before we indulge!
We also spend down time in the evenings with our families. Sometimes that means going out for dinner, but often it means playing games and sharing our favorite activities together. Elizabeth’s family has played Jenga, Goldfish, and other games – one each night!
We are loving spending this time with our hosts! Merch and Ms. Doemland are leaving their host families tonight, so they stopped for a little something to show their appreciation for these families opening their homes and lives to visitors from Farmington!
