Team Tokyo had a remarkable 36 hours. We’re now happily tucked into Yasuko Nagase’s (’96) share-house in Kyoto, a warm and welcome evening of friendship and endless food after a full schedule at Kobe Women’s College. After breakfast we toured campus, directed by students in the Kobe College English Translation Class; we immersed ourselves in a musically enriching and meditative New Year Chapel Service, and enjoyed a farewell lunch with the Chancellor and special guests. After departing Kobe Women’s College, we toured The Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Memorial, met with the CEO of Murakami General Construction, and shared conversation with Yutaka Matsubara, organizer of “Comin’ Kobe,” a 13-stage rock festival to raise money and awareness for earthquake relief throughout Japan. We were enamored and entranced.
Following our time in Kobe, we boarded our bus to Kyoto and toured the Wacoal Study Hall, a gallery, design, and study space for women and women’s art with a special focus on beauty: aesthetic, spiritual, intellectual, and social. (We prefer THIS Study Hall to ours.) Tomorrow brings us back to Tokyo and our host families. We’re all adventure, all the time!
